Caleb LEONARD31,68 was born on 23 September 1726 in Dighton, Bristol Co., MA.30 He died on 18 March 1814 at the age of 87 in Somerset twp., Washington Co., PA. He was buried in Beallsville Cemetery, Washington Co., PA. The part of Dighton where Caleb was born became Berkley in 1735. Caleb was 14 when his parents moved from MA to NJ. Caleb and his older brother, William, bought farms near each other in Mendham twp. on the east side of the settlement of the same name. The springs that produce the Passiac River are nearby, just south of the old Mendham to Morristown Road. A Caleb Leonard is listed in the May 1776 Poll List for Mendham. Caleb later bought 337 acres in Washington County, PA, that shows as first warranted by John Shephard, patented to Abraham Shephard. It was soon divided into three parts. Will in Register of Wills Office in Washington County, p. 520, Will Book 2. O. B. Leonard mentioned in "Stephen Banks Leonard" that tradition says Caleb Sr. also had two sons, Jesse, born about 1728, and William, born abt. 1730. William had sons Ziba, Amos, and Lot; and Lot had William John, and Lot. This appears to be a mix-up -- William was the brother of Caleb, Sr., and Jesse was his son. Caleb LEONARD and Jemima MINTHORN were married on 27 January 1748 in Morristown or Mendham, Morris Co., NJ.68 The 1st Presbyterian Church of Morristown records their marriage as on 27 Jan 1748. Caleb is listed as "of Roxiticus." Jemima MINTHORN31 was born in 1724 in CT. She died in 1768 at the age of 44 in Mendham, Morris Co., NJ.
