He showed up in the BLM General Office Records on 7 March 1825 in Detroit with 3 entries for Oakland Co., MI, as patentee. Research was originally done by descendants of Chauncey Leonard: Mary Jane Merritt, Glen Vliet, Alice Keefer, Walter Louis Leonard, and Willard Isaac Leonard. Three Leonard brothers came directly from Seneca Co., NY, to Hillsdale Co., MI. Chauncey Leonard travelled by way of Niagara Co., NY and there met and wed Sally Howell before moving to Hillsdale Co., MI. These four brothers are mentioned in a Hillsdale County history. James Leonard came to Niagara County from Seneca County and stayed there. Possible birth date: 8 August 1765 in Rehoboth. Sally ABBE was born in Mansfield, Tolland Co., CT.
