He seems to have been of hasty temper; was fined 10 shillings for using reviling speeches to John Braynont on the Lord's Day as soon as they came out of a meeting. He left an estate of 1751 pounds, the largest at the time in Plymouth Colony. The gravestone of Edward Gray is the oldest original stone still standing on Burial Hill, Plymouth, MA. He arrived in Plymouth in 1643. He was a merchant. According to family tradition, he and his brother were smuggled on board the ship on which they arrived and were sent to America by people who were intriguing for their property.
