Second Generation

7. Daniel LEONARD was born in 1767 in Norton, Bristol Co., MA. He died on 8 March 1847 at the age of 80 in Taunton, Bristol Co., MA. He was buried in Field Cemetery, Taunton, MA. Intentions published February 12, 1791. Levina Jones of Taunton...Daniel Leonard of Norton... Mass. VR to 1850.

They lived in Sutton, MA, per E.C.L. There's a Daniel Leonard in the 1820, 1830, and 1840 Censuses in Sutton, MA. Daniel Leonard of Sutton is listed in Massachusetts Soldiers and Sailors in the Revolutionary War, Vol. 11, page 826. (Another Daniel? This one too young to have fought in Rev. War?)

The children were apparently born in Taunton and raised in Sutton. WCL questions facts about Daniel and is researching. WCL doesn't list children of Daniel: Daniel and George and isn't sure about Barney. Levina would have been born five years after mother's death (1803 vs. 1808). George, listed as being born 1811, would have been born 8 years after mother's death. WCL thinks Daniel, if he was the Sutton Daniel, may have returned to Taunton before dying and may have been cared for by William's daughter, Betsey Leonard, who is buried next to him in the Field Cemetery. Daniel Leonard, brother of Barney Leonard, was resident in Taunton 29 Dec 1827 (Bristol Co. Land Records 125:385, WCL). (Date looks wrong or wrong Daniel -- Daniel barely born in 1767).

Did they have a daughter, Sarah, b. 1791, d. 16 Feb 1874, m. Edward Norbery?

The history of Sutton includes a narrative where Daniel and another man slept in an unoccupied house; the attic was used to store corn, which cascaded down the stairwell when the attic structure failed.

OneWorldTree has Daniel born 28 March 1773 in Taunton and dying in Union, Tolland Co., CT, 28 March 1842, son of Jacob Leonard and Rhoda Wheeler. That appears to mix up two lines of Leonards.

Question as to whether George was a child of the second marriage. Doesn't seem right.

Question as to whether this is the Daniel buried in Field Cemetery, vs. the Daniel who died in 1850.

Question as to whether Daniel was born in 1766 in Bridgewater vs. 1767 in Norton.

She died about 1825 at the age of 40 in Sutton, Worcester Co., MA. Mass Marriages 1633-1850 has them marrying in Douglas, Sutton, and New Salem on 9 August 1805 and 2 September 1805. Sibel also spelled Sybel. There's also a Sibel Davis marrying Thomas Kelley Mitchel 25 Feb 1814 in Oxford, Worcester County, MA. Another Sibel?
