2011. William H. MONNIER was born about 1838 in Pittsfield, Berkshire Co., MA. He died on 4 December 1864 at the age of 26 in Annapolis, MD.194 A William H. Monnier from Pittsfield, MA, enlisted as a corporal October 1, 1861, in the Union Army. He was a painter and 23 years of age. He was in Company E of the 27th Massachusetts Infantry Regiment. He was promoted to full sergeant on 23 July 1862. He reenlisted on November 25, 1863. He became a POW on May 16, 1864, at Drewry's Bluff, VA, and was held at the infamous Andersonville POW camp. He was exchanged 25 November 1864. He died of disease 4 December 1864 in Annapolis, MD. He left a widow, Sarah A. Monnier. She is listed as having applied for a pension based on his service.
