1166. James LEONARD⁶⁸⁵ was born on 8 August 1774 in Hanover twp., Morris Co., NJ.¹³⁰⁶ He died on 31 March 1854 at the age of 79 in Throopsville, Cayuga Co., NY. He was buried in Rural Cemetery, Throopsville, Cayuga Co, NY. He last lived in Cayuga Co., NY, where he brought up his family, according to the journal of Stephen Rose Leonard. Acording to George Bement Leonard, he grew up in New Jersey, purchased from a Revolutionary soldier Lot No. 4 in Throop Township, Cayuga Co., NY, and lived there the rest of his life. The farm continued in family ownership until 1914.

James LEONARD and Susannah CAMPFIELD were married on 17 March 1803 in Hanover, Morris Co., NJ. Susannah CAMPFIELD⁶⁸⁵, daughter of John CAMPFIELD and Mary DICKSON, was born on 25 July 1784 in Morristown, NJ. She died on 24 December 1881 at the age of 97 in Throopsville, Cayuga Co., NY. She was buried in Rural Cemetery, Throopsville, Cayuga Co, NY.

James LEONARD and Susannah CAMPFIELD had the following children:

2333	i.	Stephen Campfield LEONARD^685,1307 was born on 25 July 1804 in Mentz, Cayuga Co., NY.¹³⁰⁸ He died on 30 December 1881 at the age of 77 in Throop, Cayuga Co., NY.¹³⁰⁸ He died unmarried. In the 1860 Census, his household included Hannah Leonard, 36 (Stephen's sister), Catharine, 19, and Charles A., 22 (children of Stephen's brother, James Madison Leonard, whose wife had died in 1841). Stephen was a farmer. In the 1880 Census, he was living with his brother-in-law, Edgar B. Elderton (his sister Hannah's husband) on a farm in Auburn, NY. Edgar was disabled, and Stephen was helping him out. Hannah had servants in 1900 and 1910.
