He bought a farm just below the present site of the great dam across the Penobscot River - the second farm, just below his brother Oliver. He was for many years chairman of the Board of Selectmen and representative to the General Court. He was a member of the Constitutional Convention. He was a state senator 1825-8. In 1834 he sold his farm and moved to Bangor, building himself a house at 100 Cumberland Street. He was a notary public and justice of the peace. He was offered the Presidency of the Agricultural Bank in Brewer, but decline the offer. He died of consumption.
