572. Silas LEONARD713,714 was born on 28 November 1756 in Parsippany, Hanover Township, Morris Co., NJ. He died on 29 September 1832 at the age of 75 in Owego, Tioga Co., NY. ECL: He lived with his widowed mother 20 years. He was a manufacturer of leather knee breeches in New York. Later he moved to Massachusetts, then to Towanda, PA, and in 1803 to Owego, NY, where he lived the rest of his life. His brothers were Stephen, Zephaniah, and Paul and sisters Mary and Martha. (He missed Elijah, as did SBL. But Elijah is mentioned as a brother in Silas' Rev. War pension application.) While in New York, he lived on Wall Street, about half way between East River and Broadway, near City Hall. The dwelling was later replaced by the U.S. Customs House.

He was a Revolutionary War pensioner. His pension file no. is S.10978. He was a guard at one of the wharves in New York city for several days. He was in the battle of Short Hills in NJ. The pension file lists three surviving children: Seth, Stephen, and Henry. Joshua Leonard is mentioned as a brother-in-law in the pension file. (?)

His sight declined as he aged, and left him almost helpless.

He was baptized 28 Nov 1756 in Hanover Presbyterian Church.

Silas LEONARD and Johanna Ruthella GREGORY were married about 1790 in Bridgeport, CT. Johanna Ruthella GREGORY, daughter of Seth GREGORY, was born on 28 November 1758 in Bridgeport, CT. She died on 22 September 1816 at the age of 57 in Owego, Tioga Co., NY. They were married at her father's home in Bridgeport. "She was of a restless, nervous disposition and temperament and enjoyed constant travel and change of scene and occupation." (SBL)
