14. Judge, Major George LEONARD44,45 was born on 18 Apr 1671 in Taunton, Bristol, MA. He died on 5 Sep 1716 in Norton, Bristol, MA.31 ECL: The Hon. George Leonard, the third son of Judge Thomas, iheritedfrom his father and from the Watson family untiring industry, ability,and sound common sense, which carried him successfully through hisundertakings. He learned the bloomers art under his father at theRaynham Forge. Having married in 1694,he cast about for an opening forhis enterprise. His father and Uncle James having obtained the grant in1696 of the North Purchase for buiding there a bloomery, George movedthere to supervise the building of the dam and ironworks. These workscost about 300 pounds besides other expenses for bridges, roads, etc.George Leonard was master workman and manager. He received some propertyby his wife Anna Tisdale; and we find him in the course of five or sixyears buying lands and rights in the North Purchase ( later Norton). On28 Oct 1707 he bought of his uncle James his share in the ironworks atChartley, the third lot in the division of the North Purchase, 100 acreswith 3/4 of the land between the 3rd and 4th lot of the second division,already agreed upon to be laid out...

ECL goes on with more land purchases, the accounts of the Chartley Forgein some detail, his offices in government, and his death and rumored pactwith the devil (!!). See manuscript, pp. 53-55.

The Forge burned down 3 December 1741.

His will, dtd. August 30, 1716, mentions wife Anna, 5 daughters: Phebe,Anna, Abigail, Marcy, and Mary; 3 sons: George, Nathaniel, and Ephraim(all under age), his grandfather Watson, his uncle James Leonard, his manCaleminco, his boy Dick, his sisters Elizabeth Williams and MaryTisdale. Witnessed by John Leonard, Benjamin Ware, and Ephraim Lane.

Judge, Major George LEONARD and Anna Walker TISDALE were married on 4 Jul 1695 in Taunton, Bristol, MA.46 Anna Walker TISDALE47 (daughter of John TISDALE and Hannah ROGERS) was born on 27 Jan 1672/73 in Taunton, Bristol, MA. She died on 1 Sep 1733 in Norton, Bristol, MA. She was appointed guardian of Abiel Leonard, Ephraim Leonard, and MaryLeonard, minor children of "Madom" Mary Leonard of Taunton, dtd. 14January 1724/5 (5:14). Judge, Major George LEONARD and Anna Walker TISDALE had the following children:

Abiel LEONARD52 was born in Jun 1717 in Norton, Bristol, MA. He died in 1739 in At sea. A posthumous child. He was lost at sea about 1737. Baptised June 1717(Norton VR, p. 94). Will made January 15, 1738/39 in which he callshimself 22. Wills mentions brothers George, Nathaniel, Ephraim, andsisters Abigail, Mary, and Phebe. OneWorldTree has him marrying AbigailEloit (Elliot?), who was born January 9, 1722, in Norton.
