According to New England Families, Historical and Genealogical, Vol. 3,p. 1344: "He attended the public schools of his native town and the WestBrattleborough Seminary. When he was nineteen years old he becameassociated in the maple sugar business with his father and was admittedto partnership under the firm name of D.G. Leonard & Son. For a numberof years he managed the business and he continued it until 1895, when hesold it. For eight years he was a general merchant in Wilmington inpartnership with C. D. Spencer, under the firm name of Spencer & Leonardand conducted his maple sugar business at the same time. He engaged inthe insurance business in 1894, and since 1895 his whole time has beendevoted to it. In 1897 he removed to Springfield and since then he hashad a real estate and insurance office in that town and has taken rankamong the leading business men. He is a director of the SpringfieldCooperative Savings and Loan Association, of which he is secretary andtreasurer. He is a member of the First Methodist Episcopal Church, oneof its stewards, a trustee, and chairman of the finance committee..." Claude Greene LEONARD and Eleanor Platt RICE were married
