Eleventh Generation

1968. Richard PEARSE was born in 1590 in Panington, Gloucestershire, England. He died on 7 October 1666 at the age of 76 in Portsmouth, Newport Co., RI. He resided in Bristol, England, before coming to America on the ship, "Lyon." His brother, Capt. William Pearse, was the master of the ship.

He was said to be a son of Richard Pearse who resided on the homestead of his father, grandson of Richard Percy, the founder of Pearce Hall in York, England, and great grandson of Peter Percy, who was standard bearer for KIng Richard III of Bosworth field in 1485. Carl Boyer 3rd in "Ancestral Lines" calls Col. Frederick C. Pierce (1888) one of the least reliable genealogists to have published ever and casts doubt on the family history prior to this Richard.

Source for this and more about the Peases: New England Families, Genealogical and Memorial, Vol. 1, p. 242 ff. Martha JACOBS and Richard PEARSE were married in 1615 in Panington, Gloucestershire, England.
