400. William PECKHAM³⁰⁷ was born in 1647 in Newport, Newport Co., RI. He was born in 1647. He died on 2 June 1734 at the age of 87 in Little Compton, RI. He was Chaplin to the Earl of Hertford in 1634. He came to Newport in 1638.

On November 15, 1702, he was ordained as pastor of the First Baptist Church of Newport, supposedly the first Baptist minister ordained on this continent. He was a deputy to the General Assembly in 1696-98. He was also the fourth minister of the Baptist Church in Swansea.

Elizabeth Clarke, his first wife, was his first cousin. Her first name may have been Susannah. His second wife, Phebe Weeden, daughter of William Weeden, died in 1745.

"Little Compton Families" says he died in Middletown, not Little Compton, as does Peckham Genealogy. He's #14 in Peckham Genealogy by Stephen Farnum Peckham, New York, 1922. Elizabeth CLARKE and William PECKHAM were married before 1675 in Newport, Newport Co., RI.

401. Elizabeth CLARKE was born in 1652 in Westerly, R.I.. She died about 1682 at the age of 30.
