In 1850 he was a Shipmaster. He died on 27 December 1906 at the age of 92 in Bristol, RI.45 Albert was a Captain. He was buried in #692, Old North Burial Ground, Bristol, R.I.. Capt. Albert C. Bennett was largely self-educated and a man of the sea. He went to sea at 13 on January 27, 1827, and could navigate a ship by the age of 16. He advanced rapidly and by the age of 23 he was a master mariner in charge of the ship "Warsaw." In 1859 while in charge of the ship "W. H. Platenius" a munity arose which he was able to quell. He rounded the Cape of Good Hope in this ship 6 times. He retired from the sea in 1862 and in 1863 became Deputy Collector and Inspector of Customs for Bristol and Warren and filled this office for 12 years. I have a picture of him. He was a look-alike fro President Andrew Jackson. During a visit to New Orleans, he discovered that President Jackson was also in town. He decided to visit the hotel where the President was staying. As he walked into the reception room, the sergeant-at-arms loudly called out: "Ladies and Gentlemen, the President of the United States Andrew Jackson." Capt. Bennett had to rectify the error, but remained to meet the President. In 1900 Census he was listed as living with Fred and Julia Blaisdell, both 33. In the 1870 Census, he had real estate valued at $4500 and a personal estate of $2500. Seabury Manchester, age 50, was living with the family in 1870, along with Albert and Sarah's daughters Anne and Julia. Seabury was the brother of Sarah Howe Manchester. The Albert C. Bennett monument is located NW of the John H. Leonard plot. His wife, son, and daughter are also buried there. Martin Bennett, his brother, born cir. 1812 in RI, a cashier owning real estate of $3000, with wife Mary Bennett, born cir. 1814 in RI and son Martin Bennett, Jr., born cir 1838 in RI (page 9085). This was the banker Martin Bennett Jr., son of Capt. Martin Bennett. Martin was admitted to St. Michaels Church, Bristol, April 6, 1837, along with a number of other Bennetts (Mary, Massadore, Massadore, Jr., etc). Albert Coggeshall BENNETT were married on 16 October 1838 in Bristol, RI.46 15. Sarah Howe MANCHESTER was born on 5 July 1816 in Bristol, RI. She died on 23 August 1888 at the age of 72 in Bristol, RI.47 She was buried in #692, Old North Burial Ground, Bristol, R.I.. Rev. Thomas Shepard's Marriages -- Sally C. (or H) Manchester m. Albert C. Bennett October 16, 1838. The "Howe" in her middle name probably came from her mother's sister, Sarah Luther, who married Thomas Hilliard Howe November 8, 1790. The Howes lived in Bristol and had 6 children. Sally H. Manchester joined Congregational Church, Bristol, July 14, 1833 (per church records). Bristol Phenix announced her marriage to Albert Bennett 20 Oct 1838. She and two children took the steamship Baltic to England in 14 Nov 1847 issue. Sally is listed as 71 years, 1 month, 19 days old when she died. She is listed as the daughter of Seabury and Almy Manchester. She was living on Constitution Street in Bristol when she died of typhoid, 5 days after her granddaughter died of the same disease. Sarah H. is buried in the North Burial Ground in Bristol with A.C.
