Tenth Generation

992. Capt. John LUTHER was born about 1605 in Great Cranford, Dorset, England. He died in May 1644 at the age of 39 in Delaware Bay. He may have come as a sailor from Dorset to Boston in 1635. He was employed by the merchants of Boston as captain of a small trading vessel. He was killed by Indians in Delaware Bay, and his son, Samuel, was ransomed back to Boston merchants. See "Ancestral Lines, Third Edition," p. 381. More information is available in the Luther Genealogy, 1996.

It's rumored, but not proven, that he was a descendant of Martin Luther of Germany. This seems doubtful, given that the family had apparently lived in Dorset for some time. Elizabeth TURNER and Capt. John LUTHER were married about 1635.

993. Elizabeth TURNER was born about 1615 in England. She died on 2 May 1646 at the age of 31.
