994. Robert ABELL393 was born about 1605 in Stapenhill, Derbyshire, England. He died on 20 June 1663 at the age of 58 in Rehoboth, Bristol Co., MA.394 He came from London and landed in America in 1630. He first resided in Weymouth and moved to Rehoboth in 1643. He was an innkeeper. According to his father's will,Robert Abell had been placed "in a good trade in London, wch hee hath made noe use of." His father then furnished him for New England, and it is probable he came to America with Governor Winthrop's fleet, arriving in Charlestown, MA, in June 1630. (Carl Boyd, 3rd, Medieval English Ancestors of Robert Abell, 2001). The ancestry of Robert Abell has been researched by genealogist Carl Boyd and is reliable. The litany of Abell’s direct ancestors includes Charlemagne,[38] Alfred the Great, Malcolm of Scotland, William the Conqueror, Henry II of England and Edward I of England.[39] As well as being descended from the king who signed Magna Carta, John of England (1166-1216), Abell is also descended from 12 of the 25 “surety barons” whose charge it was to enforce the terms of this seminal social contract, i.e., William d'Albini, Roger Bigod, Hugh Bigod, Henry de Bohun, Richard de Clare, Gilbert de Clare, John de Lacie, William Malet, William de Mowbray, Saire de Quincey, Robert de Roos and Robert de Vere.[40] Because of his thoroughly documented royal pedigree, Robert Abell is considered a “gateway ancestor” by a number of heritage organizations, including the Winthrop Society, Order of the Crown of Charlemagne of the United States of America, Order of Americans of Armorial Ancestry, and the National Society Magna Charta Dames and Barons. This means that any individual who can prove that they are directly descended from Robert Abell has met one of the requirements for admittance into these organizations. Robert Abell was a direct ancestor of Grover Cleveland (1837-1938), 22nd and 24th president of the United States.[41]
The Plantagenet Line " Geoffrey Plantagenet, by name Geoffrey The FAIR, French Geoffroi Plantagenet, or Geoffroi le Bel, was born Aug. 24, 1113 to King Fulk of Jerusalem and his wife Bertrada. On May 22, 1127 he married Mathilda or Maud (as she is sometimes known), Empress of England who was born in 1104 and died on September 10, 1167. Mathilda was the only surviving legitimate child of King Henry I of England. After the death of Henry I in 1135, Geoffrey laid claim to Normandy through his wife Mathilda. During this time Mathilda attempted the conquest of England from her cousin King Stephen who had gained the crown. Geoffrey did not accompany her, as he was still engaged in the conquest of Normandy which he ultimately completed in 1144. In 1147 he undertook a crusade with King Louis VII of France. In 1150, Geoffrey and Matilda ceded Normandy to their son Henry (later King Henry II of England), who founded the English Angevin dynasty. Geoffrey died September 7, 1151 and is buried in St. Julian's Church, Le Mans, Anjou, France. Incidentally, the earliest known coat of arms was given by Henry I of England to his son in law Geoffrey Plantagenet count of Anjou, father of Henry II, in 1127." Through Edward I, King of England
