448. Robert BENNIT was born about 1681 in Portsmouth, Newport Co., RI. He died about 1 November 1746 at the age of 65 in Tiverton, RI. He was a prosperous farmer in Tiverton and dealt extensively in land. His will, dtd. October 5, 1746, probated November 3, 1746, names wife Almey (also Amy), 4 sons, and 3 daughters. A witness was John Manchester, relative of Amy?

Descendants of Robert Bennit discontinued the "it" spelling on an individual basis at various times from 1730 to 1800. Between 1800 and 1850 most family members adopted the modern "Bennett" spelling. Almey MANCHESTER and Robert BENNIT were married about 1699 in Tiverton, RI.

449. Almey MANCHESTER313 was born about 1683. She died in June 1765 at the age of 82. Almey (Amy, Almy) Manchester may have been the sister of Desire Manchester, who married William Bennet. Mrs. John W. Fiske, a Cook family genealogist, definitively established that her name was Almey.
