Third Generation

9. Joseph REDCHESTER was born in September 1739 in Sheffield, Yorkshire, England.8 He was a collier, not an occupation of someone you'd find living in the center of Sheffield, at least 10 miles from the nearest coal mine.

There is serious question as to whether Joseph Redchester is the son of John Ribchester/Redchester as described. IGI lists the christening of a Joseph Redchester's daughter at Cathedral St. Peter in Sheffield 15 April 1767, but there's nothing yet found that ties Joseph to a father named John. It is possible there were other Redchesters in Sheffield during John's generation who could have had a son named Joseph. A tie-in on occupation might provide a clue. Russell Stephen Smith does not mention Joseph (or William) among John Ribchester/Redchester's children.
