Fourth Generation

98. Edward MUNRO was born on 14 April 1747 in Bristol, RI.6 He died on 10 March 1835 at the age of 87 in Bristol, RI.37 He was buried in #440, Old North Burial Ground, Bristol, RI. He served as a private in Capt. Carr's and Capt. Throop's companies, Col. Crary's RI Regiment, 1776-1779 (Revolutionary War). He applied for a pension December 8, 1832, on the basis of his service in the RI Militia. Pension file #21111, RI. Also certifies his date of birth and parents.

He was a member and vestryman of St. Michael's Church, Bristol, and his children were baptized there.

He died "in the 88th year of his age." Gravestones are located in the Tilley plot next to a road about 100 feet N W of the John H. Leonard plot. Several of his chlldren are also buried there.

Edward MUNRO and Sarah HOAR were married on 27 August 1769 in St. Michael's Church, Bristol, RI. Sarah HOAR30, daughter of William HOAR and Susanna BRAGG, was born on 4 February 1745 in Bristol, RI.38 She died on 27 August 1826 at the age of 81 in Bristol, RI. She was buried in #441, Old North Burial Ground, Bristol, RI. She was baptized March 10, 1744-45. Her gravestone says she died August 27, 1826 in the 84th year of her age. According to Roz Edson, she may have married (1) John Card (per e-mail, 2-4-07). Source: www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/frameset_search.asp. That has her marriage to John Card 11 Feb 1762 in Gloucester, RI and her death in 1765. Also Rev. Gardiner Thurston's Marriages, V. 7, p.349. They would have had a son Elisha Card b. 8 Feb 1763 in Midlothian, RI, d. 21 Nov 1836 in Saratoga, Corinth Co., NY. There is no such place as Midlothian, RI. I doubt this is the same Sarah Hoar, but worth checking out if more information becomes available.

Sarah MUNRO was born on 3 April 1777 in Bristol, RI.35 She died on 29 December 1853 at the age of 76 in Bristol, RI.39 She was buried in Old East Burial Ground, Bristol, RI. Her death record lists Edward as her father. She apparently was never married. Her will, prepared November 27, 1846, and probated February 6, 1854, disposes of most of her goods among her sisters and their children, with the exception of her brother, Bennett. She gave $5 and half her ironware to Abby Leonard, daughter of her brother Henry. She also gave five dollars to her sister, Abigail Diman, if she be living, otherwise to Abigail's daughter Sally Blivens.

She also gave to Margaret Diman Bradford, daughter of her sister Abigail Diman and wife of Allen Bradford, her small rocking chair and half her crockery and ten dollars if that much was left of her estate after debts had been settled. Allen Taylor Bradford (1808-1852) was the son of Capt. William Bradford (1781-1851) and apparently buddies with his cousin, Walter Bradford (1809-1858), who married Sarah Warren (1816-1874). Margaret Diman Bradford and Abigail Diman Munro Leonard were of the same generation. Through their association may be how the name, Walter Bradford, slipped into the Leonard line via Abigail's grandson, Walter Bradford Leonard (1867-1955).
