20. John OLDALE was born on 16 August 1780 in Sheffield, Yorkshire, England. He died before 1840 at the age of 60 in Sheffield, Yorkshire, England. He was christened at Cathedral St. Peter, Sheffield, on August 2, 1782, son of James and Elizabeth Oldale???? He was a cutler.

He doesn't appear in the 1841 Census, so assume he was dead by then. His wife, Lydia, appears. Lydia BARKER and John OLDALE were married on 28 March 1809 in Sheffield, Yorkshire, England.20

21. Lydia BARKER was born on 9 June 1792 in Sheffield, Yorkshire, England. She died in 1870 at the age of 78 in Sheffield, Yorkshire, England. In the 1841 Census, Lydia, 50, was living at Moore St. in Ecclesall Bierlow, with Henry, 20, Eliza, 15, Charles, 15, and Elizabeth, 2 mos. (two families together?). Further down the page is another Lydia Oldale, 50, listed next to Jno. Barker, 79. There were several other families listed on the page -- James and Hannah Abbott, Charles and Mary Foundain and family, Ann Richards 50 and daughter Elizabeth 19. Hannah who married James Abbott was the daughter of Joseph Oldale and Mary Beighton. Mary, who was born 23 Sept. 1812, was also the daughter of Joseph and Mary.

Lydia was living at 2 Moor St., Ecclesall Bierlow, Sheffield, with her son, Charles, 25, at the time of the 1851 Census. Both were born in Sheffield.

Was John Barker, b. abt. 1792, living at 112 Button Lane, Ecclesall Bierlow, with his family at the time of the 1851 Census, her brother?

Lydia Barker, child of John and Elizabeth Barker, christened July 1, 1792 (IGI). A John Barker married Elizabeth May September 17, 1789, at Spofforth, Yorkshire (IGI #6909834).

Chris Meaker's web site http://www1.tribalpages.com/tribe/browse?userid=jmlevesley&view=0&pid=109&rand=53193 gives John Barker and Elizabeth unknown as her parents. In 1841 Census, widowed and living at Moore Street. Christine Nash has Lydia's birth date as July 1792.

James OLDALE was born in 1818 in Sheffield, Yorkshire, England. He died on 12 November 1888 at the age of 70 in Sheffield, Yorkshire, England. In the 1841 Census, they were living on Porter Street in Ecclesall Bierlow. His brother Joseph and wife were also living on Porter Street.

In the 1851 Census, the family was living in District 7, South Sheffield. James was a table knife cutler. They had 5 children. James Rogers, 20, was living with them (relative or apprentice?).

In the 1861 Census, the family was living at 65 Jessop Street, St. Peter district, South Sheffield. Thomas Hopewell, 13, stepson, and Mary A. Hopewell, 8, stepdaughter were living with them.

Henry OLDALE was born about 1821 in Sheffield, Yorkshire, England. He died in 1894 at the age of 73. He was a table knife cutler in Sheffield. In 1841, he was living on Moor Street in Ecclesall Bierlow; in 1851, they were living at 250 Sylvester Street; in 1861, they were living on Sylvester Street, Saint Peter, Sheffield; in 1871, 250 Sylvester Street; in 1881, 40 Sylvester Street, same in 1891.

Charles OLDALE was born on 7 May 1825 in Handworth, Yorkshire, England. He died in 1876 at the age of 51 in Sheffield, Yorkshire, England. They had 11 children, names obtainable through the Oldale web site. He was a table knife hafter. In the 1841 Census, he was living at Moor Street, Ecclesall Bierlow. In the 1851 Census, he was living with his mother, Lydia, at 2 Moor Street, Ecclesall Bierlow. A visitor, Francis Warrington, 14, was staying with them. In the 1861 Census, the family was living at Cloth Houses, Moor Street, Ecclesall Bierlow. In the 1871 Census, he was living at 114 Bramhall Lane.

Eliza OLDALE was born in 1826 in Sheffield, Yorkshire, England. In the 1841 Census, she was living on Moon Street in Ecclesall Bierlow.
