840. Robert ASHLEY was born in 1620. He died on 29 November 1683 at the age of 63 in West Springfield, Hampden Co., MA. He came to Springfield in 1639. The first allotment of land he received was on January 5, 1640-41, when head lot no. 3, of eight rods. The home lots of the inhabitants were laid oout of the west side of what is now Main Street, extending to the Connecticut River. His lot was on what is now the northwest corner of Main and State Streets. In 1646 he was licensed to keep an ordinary and resigned his position as keeper of the ordinary in the fall of 1660. He served in many town offices (jury, overseer of fences, overseer of highways, selectman). He took the oath of fidelity March 23, 1655-56. Mary EDDY and Robert ASHLEY were married in 1641 in Springfield, Hampden Co., MA.

841. Mary EDDY was born on 10 March 1625 in Nayland, Suffolk, England. She died on 19 September 1683 at the age of 58 in West Springfield, Hampden Co., MA. She was the widow of Thomas Horton of Springfield, by whom she had two children.

Mary ASHLEY was born on 6 April 1644.

Jonathan ASHLEY was born on 12 February 1646. Jonathan moved to Hartford and died there in Feb. 1705. He left three sons, two daughters, and a large estate.

Sarah ASHLEY was born on 23 August 1648.

v.

Joseph ASHLEY was born on 6 July 1652. He died on 19 May 1698 at the age of 45 in West Springfield.
