Joseph HOWLAND Jr.14 was born on 9 March 1793 in Poultney, Rutland Co., VT.15 He died on 9 March 1864 at the age of 71 in New Lenox, MA.16 He was buried in New Lenox Cemetery, North Lenox, MA. He sold his land near the furnace in Lenox in 1804 and moved to Pittsfield. Doublecheck birthdate: September 22 or March 9? In an article in the Berkshire Whig of 10-12-1843, the oxen team of Joseph Howland won the first premium of $7 in a contest of ploughmen. In the 1850 Census, he was listed as 57, Jerusha also 57, with a farm worth $3500 and a child, George L., 17, and Harriet, 46, living with them. He died suddenly at age 70, according to the Berkshire Courier. Paul Bumpus at the Mayflower Society listed Joseph as #40,480. Jerusha DEWEY and Joseph HOWLAND Jr. were married on 14 December 1814 in Richmond, Berkshire Co. MA.17 13. Jerusha DEWEY18 was born on 30 August 1788 in Richmond, Berkshire Co. MA. She died on 11 December 1863 at the age of 75 in New Lenox, Berkshire Co., MA.19 She was buried in New Lenox Cemetery, North Lenox, MA. See Dewey Genealogy, p. 770. Or was she born December 4, 1793?
