Home Surname List Name Index Sources Email Us | Fourth Generation10. Johannes Andersson SAHL was born on 30 June 1779 in Hällstad, Väster Götaland, Sweden.40 Johannes' birth record indicates a date of June 17, 1778. Parents' names are Anders and Anna, with Anna's last name illegible. Place is illegible. Witnesses include Anders Svensson, Lars, Britta, and Britta, places illegible (Salunda?). Sister was supposedly born in April 1778, so June 1778 is unlikely. Household records give a date of 1779 for Johannes. The family is noted in Hällstad church record AI:2, pages 18 and 19 (GID 1911.2.101800). It appears another soldier, Andreas Johannesson Hjelm, took over the torp, #1275, Brobacken (name is in Gothic), about 1810, as Johannes and his family are crossed out. Catharina, b. 1750, was living with them (mother or mother-in-law?). Apparently, Johannes left, and Maria Hansdotter and his two daughters stayed (listed on previous page -- GID: 1911.2.101700). Brobacken was apparently next to or part of Snugge Rote. They may also have lived at Skattegården. That was near Soldatentorp No. 527, which Hjelm also occupied. The household examination for 1811-16 has Corporal Anders Sahlquist living with his family, including Johannes, at Sandslätt, Bruntorps Rote. The information there gives Johannes' birth as 30 June 1779 (GID: 1911.3.106450). But the record of his birth in the birth book is quite definitive about 17 June 1778. Birth record makes the date of birth appear to be 18 June 1778 (GID 1911.12.94600). First witness appears to be Anders Svensson. Also two Brittas were witnesses. Johannes is married to Anna Andersdotter, born 2 October 1784. They have a daughter, Anna Caisa, born 27 December 1812. The household examination for Sandslätt 1826-32 has Anders Sahlquist dying in 1828 (born 27 April 1749 according to the record here). Johannes, born 30 June 1779, and his wife Anna Andersdotter, born 10 February 1784, moved away in 1830, but it doesn't indicate where they moved. It indicates 3 daughters: Anna Caisa, born 27 December 1812; Maria Stina, born 25 September 1819, and Johanna, born 30 June 1821, all in Hällstadt. (GID 1911.4.3000) Johannes Sahl may also have been a soldier (although he is listed as a dräng (farm hand) when he got married]. He (parents were Anders Sahlquist and Anna Andersdotter) and Maja Hansdotter (her parents were listed as Hans Lindborg and Britta Larsdotter) were living at Djupedahl, where they both were farm help. They moved to Brobacken sometime between the birth of daughters Anna Britta and Annika. Djupedal appears to have been a large farm with lots of farm help. The owner in the 1805-1810 Household (GID: 1911.2.102900) was Magnus Lindborg, b. 1751, and his wife Fru Ulrika Charlotta Östman, b. 1760. Magnus died in 1796 (?). His father was Christian and his mother Anna Elizabet Edman from Djupedal (?). Interestingly, one of the godparents for Anders Sahlquist's grandaughter Anna Britta was Ulrika Charlotta Lindborg; and one of the godparents for Annika was Anna Stina Sahlquist. Annika's other godparents were Maja Larsdotter, Lars Andersson, and Lars Hansson (were any of these relatives?). Anna Britta's other godparents were Pehr Svensson, Sven Larsson, and Sara Carlsdotter. His age is listed as 23 (or 30) at time of marriage, while Maria/Maja's is listed as 40. This doesn't agree with his date of birth (he would have been 25). And I can't find her birth in Hällstad birth records, although it is mentioned several times in the household records as 1768. Djupedal had a soldier's torp. It was occupied by a soldier called Hurtig in the 1766-77 household examination. There are no household examination records for Hällstad between 1777 and 1805, so we're missing the critical period. Johannes may have had a daugher, Johanna, who died at age 2-7-10 on 15 Nov 1815 of a fever -- Johannes Sahl and Sina Abrahamsdotter, GID: 1911.12.90400. Reference: Edlund: Soldat. 11. Maria "Maja" HANSDOTTER was born on 5 February 1768 in Hällstad, Älvsborg län, Sweden.42 She died before 1812 at the age of 44. Maria Hansdotter is noted as born in 1768 in the family records and as being 40 years old when her daughter Annika was born (meaning born in 1765). Genealogist who did research believes 1765 is more likely, but the record, GID 1911.2.101700 is clearly 1768. She was living at Skogen under prastgården or Klockaregården in the 1811-16 household examination, p. 17 (GID 1911.2.101700). Birthdate is listed as 1768. No husband listed. Children Anna Britta, b. 1803, and Annika, b. 1805, are listed, as is pigan Catherina, b. 1750 (could be 1790, no last name given). Skogen is listed next to Snugge. She and Johannes apparently parted company, and he remarried. Johannes, Maria, their daughters, and Catharina are listed on the page, but crossed out. Anna Brita is listed on that page as born in 1802 and Annika in 1805. Children were:
