But neither the 1850 nor 1860 Censuses for Tuscarawas Co. show them as residing there. In the 1870 Census, there was a Joseph T. Leonard, 82 (b. 1788 in NJ), living with the family of James W. (H?) Leonard, 39 (b. 1831 in NJ), in Flora, Ward 2, Clay Co., IL. Wife, Elizabeth, 34, born in PA. Children: Alner (m) 15, Ella 10, Sterling 4. A Sterling Leonard was living with his grandparents, Joseph and Amelia Clark, in Sandusky, OH, in the 1880 Census. In the 1900 Census, Sterling C. b. March 1866 in IL was living with his wife, Ida, in Riley, Sandusky Co., OH. They were married in 1899. In the 1910 Census, they had two children, Grace, 9, a daughter, and Leland, 6, a son. Same in 1920. Sterling was a farmer. James and Elizabeth Leonard must have died between 1870 and 1880. In 1880, Ella Leonard, 20, was listed as an orphan living with Rebecca Stanford in Stanford, Clay Co., IL. Sterling had gone back to Ohio to live with his Clark grandparents. The other son of James may have been the G. A. Leonard, b. 1856 in OH, a farmer, married to Eleanor b. 1854 in IL, children Stephen A., b. 1876 in IL and Mary M., b. 1878 in IL, all living in Stanford, Clay Co. Jarus A. Leonard, b. April 1855 in OH, married to Elnora b. January 1854 in IL, m. 1875, six children, all living: Albert, b. November 1880 in IL, Umrie, son, b. May 1883 in IL, Pearl, b. November 1887 in IL, Henry, b. February 1892, IL, all living in Stanford, Clay Co., IL. In the 1910 Census, Jarus was spelled Gaius, Elnora spelled Ellnora, and Henry V. was the only child left on the farm. Were William, b. 1826 in OH, and his wife Mary Ann and their children and grandchildren also relatives? They lived in Pixley, Clay Co. Also, Thomas Leonard, b. abt. 1829 in IN. Joseph Thompson LEONARD and Sarah GARRABRANDT were married on 4 April 1827 in Morris Co., NJ. Sarah GARRABRANDT333, daughter of Hendrick GARRABRANDT and Christina SMITH, was born on 4 February 1799 in Morris Co., NJ. She died on 14 March 1855 at the age of 56 in Tuscarawas Co., OH.
