In the 1880 Census, he was living with his family in Atlanta, Rice Co., KS. He bought a farm on section 21, Wilson township. He was living with his son Eldridge in the 1910 Census. He was John W. Leonard, according to Ohio marriage records and also grave stone of his daughter, E. Annie. He was not John Butler Leonard. Middle name Wyck? One Internet source had the parents of a John Butler Leonard of Morris Co., b. 1829, as Joseph Thompson Leonard, born 12 Apr 1788, d. 6 Nov 1873, wife Sarah Garaband, b. 4 Feb 1799, d. 14 Mar 1855, but there was no corroborating information. A Joseph Leonard was living in Mendham, Morris Co., NJ, in the 1830 Census. His family included one male under 5, one male 5-10, one male 40-50, one female 5-10, one female 30-40, and one female 50-60. That Joseph Leonard was no longer listed in Morris Co. in the 1840 Census. The only Joseph Leonard in the 1840 New Jersey Census was living in Middletown, Monmouth Co. The 1830 Census does not list family members by name. The 1800, 1810, and 1820 Censuses for NJ are missing. There was a Joseph T. Leonard living in Hanover, Morris Co., NJ, in the September 1817 tax list. In the 1850 Census, there was a Joseph Leonard, 74, (b. abt. 1776), a farmer, wife Sarah 59 (b. abt. 1791), son John 18 (b. abt. 1832), a blacksmith, living in Morris, Morris County, NJ, next door to Samuel Leonard, 22, a farmer, and his wife Mary E. Not quite a match. John Butler LEONARD and Mary Dartough SUYDAM were married on 13 April 1854 in Coshocton Co., OH. Mary Dartough SUYDAM333, daughter of Abraham SUYDAM and Catherine SPIRLING, was born on 13 April 1829 in New Commerce, OH.336 She died on 6 February 1892 at the age of 62 in Lyons, Rice Co., KS.
