465. Amos LEONARD²¹² was born on 25 September 1796 in Paris, NY. He died on 16 December 1870 at the age of 74. He was buried in Cemetery, Taylor, NY. He was a soldier in the War of 1812, doing duty at Sackett's Harbor, Lake Ontario. He resided for a time in Pitcher, Chenango Co., NY, removed in 1834 to Easton, Lorain Co., OH, thence in 1838 to Huron Co., OH, then to Byron, Kent Co, MI in 1845 and to Allegan Co., MI, in 1854.

He was a very well read man, had a remarkable memory, and kept well informed on the topics of the day. He was very entertaining in conversation and had unique ways of expression -- many of his sayings being long remembered and often quoted. He had a fund of dry humor and in repartee was often very droll. He was a good financier and solid business man, comanding the respect and esteem of all who knew him.

Amos LEONARD and Susan TERRELL were married in 1824. Susan TERRELL, daughter of Elias TERRELL and Hannah WARNER, was born on 13 June 1803 in Waterville, CT. She died in 1859 at the age of 56 in IL.

Amos LEONARD and Susan TERRELL had the following children:

1108	iv.	Elias LEONARD²⁴⁴ was born on 13 April 1836 in Eaton, Lorain Co., OH. He died on 29 September 1890 at the age of 54 in Bradley, MI. He had no children. He learned to speak French, Spanish, Italian, German, and Dutch, also Swedish. He enlisted 8 Aug 1861 in Co. C. 6th Michigan Infantry, was taken prisoner at the battle of Baton Rouge, and was paroled and exchanged at Vicksburg 7 Sep 1862, later discharged on diability. He later became a landscape painter.
