18. Capt. Barney LEONARD Jr. was born in 1790 in Bridgewater, Plymouth Co., MA. He died on 6 May 1847 at the age of 57 in Providence, RI. He was buried in Scotland Cemetery, Bridgewater, MA. He was also known as Barnabus and Barna, rarely Barney Leonard, Jr. Difference in birthdates: Harriot Standish Leonard gives 1791. He's not mentioned in the 1790 Census for the family. He served in the War of 1812. He was employed in Providence, RI, for some years.

His body was found floating in Providence Cove, and it is believed someone robbed him after blackjacking him and set his body adrift. The Cove at that time as far into Providence as the old railroad station (now refurbished into office space and virtually unrecognizable).

Capt. Barney LEONARD Jr. and Lydia SPRAGUE were married after 27 August 1815 in Bridgewater, MA, or Warwick, RI.²³ Lydia SPRAGUE, daughter of Benjamin SPRAGUE and Priscilla CHURCHILL, was born on 17 August 1799 in Bridgewater, Plymouth Co., MA. She died on 20 February 1868 at the age of 68 in Warwick Neck, Warwick, RI. She was buried in Scotland Cemetery, Bridgewater, MA. The 1850 Census has her living with her daughter, Louisa, in Ward 4, Providence,

She went to live with her daughter, Harriot Arnold, in Warwick Neck after Capt Barney died.

Capt. Barney LEONARD Jr. and Lydia SPRAGUE had the following children:

78	i.	William Henry LEONARD was born on 25 May 1817 in Bridgewater, Plymouth Co., MA. He died on 26 June 1823 at the age of 6 in Bridgewater, Plymouth Co., MA.⁴ He was buried in Scotland Cemetery, Bridgewater, MA. He died at age 6, "the 25th of last May." (?)
79	ii.	Harriot Miller LEONARD was born on 10 April 1820 in Bridgewater, Plymouth Co., MA.⁴ She died on 30 September 1822 at the age of 2 in Bridgewater, Plymouth Co., MA.⁴ She died suddenly at age 3 years, 6 mos. of quinsy.
