7. Martha LEONARD¹ was born on 15 April 1649 in Springfield, Hampden Co., MA.

Martha LEONARD and Benjamin WAIT were married on 8 June 1670 in Springfield, Hampden Co., MA.⁸ Benjamin WAIT, son of Thomas WAIT, was born in 1640 in Plymouth, MA. He died on 29 February 1704 at the age of 64 in Deerfield, MA. He was slain in an encounter with Indians in Deerfield. "He was a brave, fearless guide and leader of scouts, was well versed in Indian warfare, and excelled in his ability to cope with the savage in cunning. At the battle of Deerfield the Indians were driven from the field, but were reinforced by the French, who in turn drove the Americans back. Sergeant Benjamin Waite fell in the retreat, his body being stripped and mutilated."
