860. Francis ELY was born on 24 January 1796 in West Springfield, Hampden Co., MA. He died on 26 May 1880 at the age of 84. He went to Glastonbury as a young man and worked in a woolen mill. In 1856 he was elected a member of the State Legislature, receiving the largest majority ever given to a Democrat. (Jacobus, p. 543).

Francis ELY and Eltruda HALE were married on 15 March 1824 in Glastonbury, Hartford Co., CT. Eltruda HALE, daughter of Thomas HALE and Lucretia HOUSE, was born on 24 December 1801 in Glastonbury, Hartford Co., CT. She died on 4 April 1893 at the age of 91 in Hartford, Hartford Co., CT.
