2042. Gardner Cotrell LEONARD was born on 16 October 1865 in West Springfield, Hampden Co., MA. He died on 15 April 1921 at the age of 55 in Albany, Albany Co., NY. He graduated from Williams College in 1887. He was employed by the law firm of Cotrell and Leonard, established in 1832 by his grandfather, Joshua G. Cotrell. He was a member of many civic organizations. He created the American system for scholastic regalia (caps & gowns) worn at graduation ceremonies, etc., first for his own graduating class at Williams. Later, the gowns were sold through his family's dry goods store, Cotrell & Leonard of Albany, NY. (Per David Carter, a descendant)

Gardner Cotrell LEONARD and Grace WATSON were married on 18 February 1903. Grace WATSON was born in Waterford, NY.

Gardner Cotrell LEONARD and Grace WATSON had the following children:

2147	i.	Gardner Cotrell LEONARD was born on 22 September 1905 in Albany, Albany Co., NY. He died on 6 September 1931 at the age of 25 in Paris, France. He never married -- no children.
+2148	ii.	Margaret Sutherland LEONARD was born on 4 October 1907 in Albany, Albany Co., NY. She died on 4 August 1996 at the age of 88 in San Francisco, CA.
