9. John Broughton LEONARD was born on 8 March 1813 in Granville, Washington Co., NY. He died on 7 November 1896 at the age of 83 in Cortland, Cortland co., NY. He was buried at Section 131, Lot W, Cortland Rural Cemetery in Cortland Co., NY. On 1 February 1848, John B. Leonard of Racine Co., WI, purchased a land patent for 40 acres in Kenosha Co., WI.

In the 1850 Census, he was single, living with his parents.

He supposedly married Melissa Clark, according to DAR records, and they had a daughter, Frances Hamilton Leonard.

John Broughton LEONARD and Melissa WEBSTER were married on 17 January 1852 in Truxton, Cortland Co., NY. Melissa WEBSTER, daughter of Willard WEBSTER and Polly BLACKMAN, was born in 1832. She died in 1895 at the age of 63.

John Broughton LEONARD and Melissa WEBSTER had the following children:

48	ii.	Lillie Blake LEONARD was born in 1858.
49	iii.	Lydia LEONARD was born in 1859.
50	iv.	Frances Hamilton LEONARD was born in 1859. She died in 1929 at the age of 70.
51	v.	Harriet E. "Hattie" LEONARD was born in 1866. She died in 1921 at the age of 55.
52	vi.	Berta J. LEONARD was born in 1868.
53	vii.	Thomas LEONARD was born in 1868 in Cortland Co., NY.
