1. James LEONARD was born about 1809 in Butternuts, Otego Co., NY. His father was named James. There were 12 in the household in 1820 in Butternuts. He died about 1880 at the age of 71 in Preston, Wayne Co., PA. There is a family story about a boy of ten, a son of a lord, who was sent to the store, but kidnapped by sailors on the way and put to work on a ship. Some 8 to 10 years later, he escaped on the Hudson River and made his way to Thompson or Poyntelle, PA. He is buried in the Poyntelle Cemetery. He was the father or grandfather of James.

James LEONARD and Ruth Caroline CLARK were married about 1830 in NY. Ruth Caroline CLARK was born on 12 April 1811 in North Stonington, New London Co., CT. She died about 1880 at the age of 69 in Preston, Wayne Co., PA.
