3971. George Bement LEONARD685,3330 was born on 25 June 1838 in Syracuse, Onondaga Co., NY. He died on 7 June 1914 at the age of 75 in Syracuse, Onondaga Co., NY. He was educated in the Syracuse public schools. He started in banking in 1853. In 1863 he became cashier of the First National Bank of Syracuse. In 1897 he was elected President of the Salt Springs National Bank. He held many directorships. He was the largest individual stockholder of the National Tube Co. He was director of the Great Lakes Steamship Co. He was one of the original petitioners for the charter of the Syracuse Trust Co. He was in the NY Militia during the Civil War.

In the 1870 Census, he, his wife, and son, Baptist, were living with his father, John A. Leonard, along with other children of John: Edward, 28, a bookkeeper, Frances, 26, a teacher, Mary, 23, Charlotte, 19, and Henrietta, 17.

George Bement LEONARD and Elizabeth Dewitt DIMOCK were married on 24 October 1866. Elizabeth Dewitt DIMOCK, daughter of Thomas DIMOCK and Elizabeth MANDEVILLE, was born on 28 August 1841 in Cuba, NY. She died on 7 January 1927 at the age of 85 in Syracuse, Onondaga Co., NY.

George Alexander LEONARD685,3334 was born on 7 December 1886 in Syracuse, Onondaga Co., NY. He graduated from Princeton, 1908, and was a ship builder in Canada during World War I. His company built three ships for England and two for Canada. He traveled widely throughout Europe, Asia, Africa, and South America.
