In the 1869 Taunton City Directory, he was listed as a brittania worker and had a house at Whittenton (street?). He apparently went by the name of N. Bradford Leonard. Taunton VR's call him an iron founder at the time of his marriage.

He enlisted in the 62 Mass. Infantry in 1860. He enlisted as a private on 16 July 1864 at age 19 in Company C, 5th Infantry Regiment, Massachusetts and mustered out on 16 November 1864. In the 1869 Taunton City Directory. he was boarding with Nathaniel B. Leonard. In the 1890 Taunton City Directory, he was listed as an insurance agent located at 42 City Square (Bristol County Bank Building) and boarding at 10 Clifton St. He became a moulder, like his father. He was a Justice of the Peace in Taunton in 1894 and had a fire, life, and accident insurance business in the Bristol County National Bank Building.
