Samuel LEONARD1500 was born on 17 February 1791 in Middleborough, Plymouth Co, MA.1501 He died on 25 October 1868 at the age of 77 in New Bedford, Bristol Co., MA. He was a merchant in New Bedford. He built for the firm of Rotch, Arnold and Russell an extensive salt works at "the cove." Later Rotch built the wharf locally known as Leonard's wharf. After a fire that destroyed his brother Nehemiah's works, he rebuilt the same. He had what was then the world's largest oil refinery in New Bedford. He was the first to make colored wax candles, which were used worldwide. Samuel LEONARD and Hannah TABER were married on 2 October 1814 in Fairhaven, Bristol Co., MA. Hannah TABER, daughter of Benjamin TABER and Robey AKIN, was born on 2 August 1788 in New Bedford, Bristol Co., MA. She died on 3 July 1872 at the age of 83 in New Bedford, Bristol Co., MA.
