Esther Leonard of Indiana was the widow of Nathaniel. The pension was payable to Zephaniah Leonard, Mary Curry, formerly Mary Leonard, James Leonard, Nathaniel Leonard, Elizabeth Cooper, formerly Elizabeth Leonard, Esther Harden, wife of William D. Harden, formerly Esther Leonard, John Leonard, and Nancy, widow of John Widows, formerly Nancy Leonard, all of whom were alive in May 1848 when application was made. This Nathaniel Leonard tends to get mixed up with a Thomas Leonard who was a sergeant in the Revolutionary War and also married an Esther Heath. Both Esthers applied for Rev. War pensions, supported by their (different) sons, which were granted. Thomas Leonard lived in Beaver Falls, PA. The Sylvan Leonard branch claimed descendancy from this Thomas Leonard. The name, Nathaniel, was crossed out in Frank Bonner Leonard's application for SAR membership. Capt. Nathaniel LEONARD and Esther HEATH were married on 14 August 1779 in Southampton, Bucks Co., PA?. Certificate in Nathaniel's Rev. War pension file gives date and place of marriage (hard to read). Esther HEATH44, daughter of John HEATH and Ann LEWIS, was born on 18 April 1766 in Somerset Co., NJ. She died on 7 January 1846 at the age of 79 in Henry Co., IN. Note: There appear to be two Esther Heaths, one b. 1760 who married Nathaniel and another b. 1766 who married Thomas. Doublecheck! Capt.
