The 1999 Season

The 1999 season found us both in new age groups.   We competed in the ITU World Triathlon Championships in Montreal in September,  the National Triathlon Championship in St. Joseph, MO, at the end of September, and Brad competed in the World Duathlon Championship in Huntersville, North Carolina, in mid-October.  Brad qualified for the 2000 ITU World Triathlon Championship in Perth, Western Australia, in April 2000.  Brad has now done 140 triathlons, while Sue is up over 110.

October 16th - ITU World Duathlon Championship (run 10K-bike 40K-run 5K), Huntersville, NC.  Cool, clear, some wind.  Brad 11th, M65-69, in 2:48:06.

October 10th - Run on the Wild Side 10K at the zoo in Denver.   Cool, clear.  Sue 2nd, F50-54, in 51:21; Brad 1st, M65-69, in 55:16.

September 25th - USAT National Triathlon Championship in St. Joseph, MO.  Cool, clear, some wind.  Sue 16th in F50-54 in 3:17:52; Brad 9th in M65-69 in 3:03:09.

September 11th - ITU World Triathlon Championships in Montreal.   Cool, clear, very windy.  Sue 26th in F50-54 in 2:57; Brad 11th in M65-69 in 2:49:50.

August 29th - Tim Kerr 10K, New Jersey, sultry.  Sue 2nd in F50-54 in 51:54; Brad 2nd in M65-69 in 53:09. 

August 21st - Ed Snell Memorial Run/10,000 Meters at 10,000 Feet, from Alma to Fairplay, Colorado, cool and partly cloudy at 2 miles above sea level.  Sue 1st in F51-60 in 54:48; Brad 2nd in M61+ in 56:18.

August 1st - Wild Dog Triathlon, North Kingston, R.I., again sunny, hot, and very humid, 650 yard swim, 10 mile bike, 5K run.  Sue finished first, F50-54, and 150th of 241 overall in 1:11:49; Brad first, 65-69, 138th of 241, in 1:10:31.  The last of our eastern races before moving to Colorado in early August.

July 23, Blessing of the Fleet 10 miler, Narragansett, R.I.   Sue finished in 86 minutes, Brad in 87, on a hot, humid Friday evening.

July 4th - Fourth of July 8 K, DCRR, Alexandria, sunny, hot, and humid.  Sue finished in 43:08, 51st of 110; Brad in 43:26, 52nd of 110.

June 26th - National Duathlon Championship, Marlboro, MA.   Sunny, hot, and humid.  Brad finished 4th in 2:02:06, qualified for ITU World Duathlon Championship in North Carolina in October.

June 12th - Thunder Gust Triathlon, overcast 70's, east wind 15mph, swim just under half a mile, 15 mile bike, 4.5 mile run
Sue:  1:41:34, 4th 50-54, 37 out of 66 women, 203/270 overall.  Brad:  1:35:29, 1st 65-69, 130/204 men, 159/270 overall.  Race (swim) longer than previous year.  Brad beat all the 60-64's!

June 5th - World Championship Qualifier, Clermont, FL, sunny, hot, humid, still, swim 1200 m?, bike hilly 24.6 mi., run hilly 6.2 miles
  Sue:  3:01:36, 13th 50-54, 722 out of 802 overall
  Brad:  2:50:56, 6th 65-69, 665/802 overall
We both qualified for TeamUSA to the World Championships in Montreal in September.

May 23rd - Columbia Triathlon, MD, sunny, 80's, little wind, 1500 meter swim, hilly 25.2 mile bike, hilly 6.4 mile run
  Sue:  3:09:36, 3rd 50-54, 732/893 overall
  Brad:  2:56:58, 1st 65-69, 608/893 overall

May 2nd - Run for Kids, Seattle, WA - 5K, sunny, strong blustery winds, cold
  Sue:  24:01, 2nd 50-54?
  Brad:  26:10,  no idea of place

April 24th - FAB 5K, Alexandria, VA - sunny, 50 degrees, windy
  Sue:  24:25, 2nd overall woman, 1st 50+ women
  Brad:  25:37, 1st 60+ male, 25th overall (small race, great prizes!)

April 18th - George Washington Parkway 15K, sunny, 50's
  Brad:  80:45 (haven't seen results yet)

April 11th - Cherry Blossom Ten Miler, Washington, rain, 40's, cold
  Sue:  85:00
  Brad:  92:23, 38/79 60-64, 2354/3190 males - ran the whole race in a garbage bag - may have been slow, but stayed dry!

March - Winn-Dixie 5 K, Englewood, FL, sunny, warm, 70's
   Sue:  24:32

The 1998 Season

1998 was a low-key season for us, since we were both at the old end of our age groups (Sue moved up to a new age group in August, while I become a youngster in a new age group in May 1999).  So we took it easy and had fun.

March 26th - Run vs. Row, 10K, Alexandria, Sunny, 70's
   Sue:  50:52 10th out of 57 45-49, 92/344 women
   Brad:  55:13 13th of of 24 60-69, 414/592 men

April 5th - Cherry Blossom 10 Miler, Washington, Cloudy, 40's
   Sue:  81:33  396 out of 2454 women
   Brad:  94:54  2968 out of 3738 men (just jogged it, had a cold)

April 19th - George Washington Parkway 15K, Alexandria, Cloudy, 50's
   Sue:  75:54  12th, 45-49 women, 627th overall
   Brad:  77:49  4th, 60-64 men, 735th out of 2100+ overall

April 25th - Run for the Kids, 5K, Hanover, NH, Cloudy, cold
   Brad:  24:59  3rd, 55-69, 118th of 228 overall

May 17th - Columbia Triathlon, 1500m swim, 41K bike, 10K run, sunny, humid, 80's
   Sue:  3:12:27, 4th in 45-49 women
   Brad:  2:55:49,   2nd in 60-64 men, 572 out of 830 overall

June 13th - Thundergust Triathlon, New Jersey, 500m swim, 14.8 mi. bike, 4.5 mi. run, cloudy, humid, 70's
   Sue:  1:37:18, 2nd in 45-49 women
   Brad:  1:32:18, 3rd in 60-64 men, 170 out of 257 overall

July 18th - Sunset Sprint Triathlon, New Jersey, 800m swim, 16 mi. bike, 3.1 mi. run, sunny, hot and humid, 80's

   Brad:  1:35:57, 2nd in 60-64 men, 246 out of 402 overall

August 9 - Wilkes-Barre Triathlon, Pennsylvania, swim cancelled due to goose poop pollution, bike 24.4 mi., run 7.1 mi., sunny, hot

August 30 - Tim Kerr 10K run, New Jersey, hot and humid
   Sue:  51:36, 2nd 50-54 women

September 13 - Reston Triathlon, 1 mile swim, 22.5 mi bike, 6.2 mile run, sunny, clear, 70's
   Sue:  2:54:22, 3rd 50-54 women
   Brad:  2:44:10, 1st 60-64 men, 224 of 414 overall

October 11 - Army Ten Miler run, Washington, cool, clear 60's
   Sue:  86:08, 10th of 42 50-54 (3 min. to starting line for both!)
   Brad:  86:59, 13th of 64, 60-64, 5188 out of 11,450 overall

October 25 - Goblin Gallop 5K run, Fairfax, VA, clear, 70's
   Sue:  23:18, 1st, 50-54 women
   Brad:  24:16, 8th, 60-64 men (tough field for a local race!)

November 8 - Terry Fox/John Wayne 5K, Los Angeles, CA, cloudy, low 60's
   Sue:  23:25, 3rd, 50-59 women
   Brad:  24:45, 2nd, 60-64 men, 92nd out of 253 overall

November 29 - Seattle Half Marathon, 13.1 mi. run, rain, 40 degrees
   Sue:  1:55:45, 8th, 50-54 women
   Brad:  1:56:30, 14th, 60-64 men

   1500 meter run - 6:41, 2nd, 60-64
   400 meter run - 86 seconds, 4th, 60-64
   100 meter run - 17.1 seconds, 3rd, 60-64

March 1997 - Masters Alpine Skiing World Championship, Copper Mountain, Colorado. Austrians made up a quarter of the field!

January - March 1997 - NASTAR (NAtional STandard Race, Alpine Skiing) Season:  Brad ranked 7th nationally among men 60-69

February 16, 1997 - Frisco Gold Rush 5K Crosscountry Skiing
   Brad:  2nd, 60-69, 49th of 82 overall.

February 3, 1997 - Summit Senior Games, Colorado.  Brad entered:
   Speedskating 500 meters - 2nd, 60-64
   Giant Slalom - 1st, 60-64

The 1996 Season

October 13 - Army Ten Miler
   Brad:  80:54, 5th of 40, 60-64, 3134 of 7600 overall.

April 16-18 - International Senior Games, Bermuda.  Brad hampered by bad case of flu, but entered:
   1500 meter run:  2nd, 60-64
   World Greatest Athlete:  2nd, 60-64 (events included 50 m. and 200 m swims, 100 m. dash, 1 mile run, shot put, long jump, 20 kilometer. bike race, squat and bench press in weight lifting, % body fat)
