Fourth Generation

307. Jedidiah LEONARD335 was born in 1730 in Easton, Barnstable Co., MA. He died on 16 May 1776 in Vernon, CT.336 Sarah may have been married before (Thomas Price) and had a number ofchildren by him.

ECL says Jedidiah probably married Sarah Baldwin of Hanover, NJ. Therewere a number of Leonards in Hanover, Morris County, NJ, including notonly Stephen of the James line, but Benjamin of the Solomon line andtheir descendants. One must be doubly careful to keep the Leonard linesstraight in Morris County.

Jedidiah Leonard and his wife became members of the First CongregationalChurch of Old Lyme 5 November 1759 and had their children Phebe, Eunice,Rebecca, and Asa baptized on the same date (per First CongregationalChurch records, CT State Library).

A Jebediah Leonard enlisted 8 September 1755, discharged 10 December1755, Eight Co., Capt. Harris, from CT Hist. Society Collections, Vol.IX, French-Indian War Rolls, Vol. 1, Vol. 2. He may also be the JedidiahLeonard who served in Co. of Capt. Ellsworth, 1775.

A Jedidiah Leonard apparently lived in Bolton, CT, near Tolland. He andSarah baptized all their children 5 May 1776, apparently just before hedied. Info about Jedidiah from NEHGS Register, 58:197 and 59:213 and60:201. Is this the same Jedidiah Leonard? Did they move from Lyme toBolton? Was Jedidiah a stone-cutter? His son, Asa, seems to have been astone-cutter in Stockbridge, MA, for some years, earning enough money atthat to finance his purchase of land in Tioga Co., NY, and to move there.

Jedidiah's will mentions only his wife, Sarah.

Jessie Deith from Illinois, a descendant of Jedidiah through Huldah, isresearching this line and supplied the information on Hulda'sdescendants. Jessydeith@@aol.com. 6 Sept. 2006.

Benjamin Leonard, a descendant of Jedidiah's son Asa, is researching thisline and supplied the information on Asa's descendants.
