185. Paul LEONARD258 was born in 1706 in Taunton, Bristol Co., MA. He died on 5 Nov 1778 in Hanover township, Hunterdon Co., NJ. ECL: NJ Abstract of Wills dtd. September 26, 1787, Paul Leonard ofHanover: Administration is given to David Leonard. His fellow bondsmanwas Moses Kitchel. He married (2) Abigail, who declined administrationof his will. Witnesses to his will were Stephen and Moses Leonard (ECLnotes: who were they?). Will 684N. B. 29, p. 473. Int. 1787. Inv.1787. Ren. 1787.

ECL notes that there may have been other children.

GML notes Paul, soon after his father's death in 1743, settled on a farmin Alexandria, Hunterdon Co., NJ.

Stephen Rose Leonard's journal (1848) states that Paul had two brothers,Silas and Elijah, who were occupied in the foundry business inMassachusetts and removed to New Jersey, locating themselves in thevicinity of Rockaway Neck, Morris Co., where Paul Leonard reared hisfamily of seven children: Josiah, James, David, Phebe, Lydia, Huldah,Diadema. The latter two appear to be children of Paul's father,Stephen. He fails to mention Daniel, Adam, Joshua, and Mary, so therewould have been nine altogether.

ECL insert 117A has Josiah4, Stephen3, James2-1.

One genealogy says that Paul and Abigail had two children: Adam andDaniel. But Abigail would have been in her 40's then... Adam would havebeen born 1763/4 in Hunterdon Co., NJ, and Daniel would have been bornaft. 1765 in Hunterdon Co.

Virginia C.Jansen, 22 Feb 2002, Hist314 WS/TC: "After his wife's death, PaulLeonard married Abigail, widow of Edmund Crane who died in 1762 leavingeleven children. The widow Abigail Crane was born Abigail Kitchel in1717, a sister of Phebe's mother Mary Allis Kitchel and Moses' fatherJoseph Kitchel. Paul and Abigail then moved to Alexandria twp.,Hunterdon Co., NJ, and had two more children, Adam and Daniel Leonard.(But Paul and Mary already had had children named Adam and Daniel. Hadthey died?)

Paul LEONARD and Mary Alice KITCHEL were married about 1737 in Morris, NJ. Mary Alice KITCHEL (daughter of Abraham KITCHEL and Sarah BRUEN) was born in Jul 1715 in Hanover township, Morris Co., NJ. She died on 29 Mar 1762 in Hanover township, Morris Co., NJ. The Kitchell Family History Book by Delores Kitchel Clem and Dwain L.Kitchell, 1989, mentions Paul Leonard being born 1711 in Taunton anddying 1787 in Alexandria twp., Hunterdon Co., NJ. It has the Kitchelancestry back 5 generations to Kent, England in the 1500's.

Mary Alice Kitchel had a brother named David, which may be how the nameDavid came into the Leonard family. Paul LEONARD and Mary Alice KITCHEL had the following children:

On 12 December 1812, Mary Leonard of Kingwood,Hunterdon Co., NJ "to 6 of my brother's (Adam's) children: to Adam 5pounds, to other 5, Mary Fitch, Elizabeth Fisher, Catherine Kitchen,Catherine Leonard the remainder and wearing apparel." James Kitchen wasthe executor.

Paul LEONARD and Abigail KITCHEL were married about 1762. Abigail KITCHEL (daughter of Abraham KITCHEL and Sarah BRUEN) was born in Nov 1717 in Hanover township, Morris Co., NJ. She was born in Nov 1717. She died on 20 Aug 1801 in Whippany, Morris Co., NJ.260 She was a sister of Phebe's mother Mary Allis Kitchel and Moses' fatherJoseph Kitchell. Paul LEONARD and Abigail KITCHEL had the following children:
