Capt. Joseph Hall was a wealthy business man, as theinventory of his estate indicates, which covers several pages, giving thenames of a variety of valuables, among which were two slaves, a man and awoman, whom he willed to his wife; it being before the decree ofemancipation in Massachusetts; he was master of a vessel, and was engagedin coasting and trading to and from New York, and the West Indies; he wasalso interested in land purchases and loaning of money; he was aprominent member of the church of Taunton, of which Rev. Samuel Danforthand Rev. Thomas Clapp were the fourth and fifth pastors." Childrenlisted as he quotes them.
