He was commissioned an ensign by Gov. John Brooks, a lieutenant in 1820by Gov. William King, the first governor of Maine, a captain in 1822, amajor in 1825, a lieutenant colonel in 1827 by Gov. Enoch Lincoln. Hewas honorably discharged 22 April 1833. (NEHGS Reg. 59:238). Eliza SHAW (daughter of Gilbert SHAW and Silence COLE)
was born on 2 Sep 1801 in Paris, ME. She died on 22 Jan 1875.
She was a lineal descendant of both Abraham Shaw of Halifax, England, whodied
at Dedham, MA, in 1638 and of John Shaw of Plymouth. Col. Samuel KING and Eliza
