524. John HOWLAND8 was born in 1602 in Fenstanton, Huntingdonshire, England. He died on 23 February 1673 at the age of 71 in Plymouth, Plymouth Co., MA. He was buried on 25 February 1673 in Burial Hill, Plymouth, MA. John Howland came over on the Mayflower as a servant or attendant to Governor Carver. Governor Carver and his wife both died in the first season after arrival. He was an assistant to the Governor 1633-35, afterwards a representative. He died in 1673 at age 80. See George Ernest Bowman's articles in The Mayflower Descendant, Vol. XVII, Howland Notes. His wife, Elizabeth Tilley, also came over on the Mayflower. He had an exciting experience on the way over, described by Governor Bradford in his history of Plymouth Colony. He fell overboard, grabbed one of the topsail halyards (ropes), held on, though under water, and was eventually hauled back aboard the Mayflower.

He was one of the party of ten that was sent ashore December 8, 1620, to explore the country and select a place for landing. He held several offices in he Colony, being Assistant 1633-35. He was Depty eleven years, between 1652 and 1676. Elizabeth TILLEY and John HOWLAND were married on 25 March 1623 in Plymouth, Plymouth Co., MA.

525. Elizabeth TILLEY8 was born before 30 August 1607 in Henlow, Bedfordshire, England. She died on 31 December 1687 at the age of 80 in Swansea, Bristol Co., MA. She was buried in Brown lot, Little Neck Cemetery, Riverside, RI. She was a passenger on the "Mayflower" with her parents.

Desire HOWLAND was born on 13 October 1623 in Plymouth, MA. She was born on 13 October 1625 in Plymouth, Plymouth Co., MA. She died on 13 October 1683 at the age of 60 in Plymouth, Plymouth Co., MA.

John HOWLAND was born on 24 April 1627 in Plymouth, Plymouth Co., MA. He was born on 24 April 1627. He died after 18 June 1699 at the age of 72 in Barnstable, Barnstable Co., MA. John died on 1 January 1704 at the age of 76 in Plymouth, Plymouth Co., MA. He and his wife first settled in Plymouth and Marshfield and then moved to Barnstable, MA.

Hope HOWLAND was born on 30 August 1629.

Elizabeth HOWLAND was born in 1631.

Lydia HOWLAND was born in 1633.

Joseph HOWLAND was born about 1640.

Jabez HOWLAND was born about 1644 in Plymouth, MA. He died on 17 October 1732 at the age of 88 in Bristol, RI. He was one of the early settlers of Bristol in 1681. He had served as Capt. Benjamin Church's lieutenant in King Philips War (1675-76) and became familiar wtih the area during that time. He was a leading citizen of Bristol and was its first town clerk.
