The Munro Clan are vassels of the Earl of Ross and their lands lie along the north shore of the Cromarty Firth in the area known as Ferindonald (Donald's Land), covering the modern parishes of Kiltearn and Alness. Malcolm II under King James VI the military jurisdiction of Foelis for services rendered is given to Donald Munro and his descendants; George, 1101, Hugh, Robert died 1164, Donald died 1192, Robert died 1239, George died 1282, Robert of Foelis supported Robert the Bruce at Bannockburn in 1314, George died 1333, Robert killed 1369, Hugh, George killed 1454, John, and William killed 1505.
The first Baronet is Sir Hector Munro, the 22nd baron of Fowlis who is conferred 7 Jun 1634 for service of Gustavus Adolphus in Germany. He married Katherine the daughter of Sir Kenneth Mackenzie of Kintail and second married Katherine the widow of Donald MacDonald of Slate
