Francis came in 1620 on the Mayflower. He was a woolcomber by trade. He signed the Mayflower Compact. His wife was a Walloon. In 1652, he was one of the original purchasers of Dartmouth, MA. The line through to Elizabeth Washburn who married Josiah Conant is confirmed in Mayflower Families through Five Generations, Volume 12, Francis Cooke, Picton Press, 1996. Hester MAHIEU and Francis COOKE were married on 30 June 1603 in Leiden, Holland. 2231. Hester MAHIEU411 was born in 1585 in Bondu, near Lille and Armentieres, France. She died on 8 June 1676 at the age of 91 in Plymouth, Plymouth Co., MA. When the area around Lille in Walloon Flanders was captured by the Catholic forces in 1578, many Walloon Calvinists fled to England as well as to Bruges and Antwerp to escape religious persecution. He died on 23 November 1695 at the age of 88 in Plymouth, MA. He was a Mayflower passenger in 1620. He served as a Deputy to the General Court of Plymouth from 1638 to 1656. He defended Quakers in the Colony, in disagreement with the pastor of the Plymouth Church, and moved to Dartmouth as one of the original purchasers about 1664. He served as a Selectman in Dartmouth from 1670 to 1686. In 1676 he joined the Baptist Church in Newport and preached at Dartmouth. He was one of the partners in building the Colony's first ship. He was also of service in distributing the Irish charity in 1677, after King Philip's War. | | ii. | Elizabeth COOKE410 was born before 26 December 1611 in Leyden Walloon Church, Leyden, Holland.
