1792. Robert BENNET was born in LIncolnshire, England. Robert Bennet came to this continent in 1639. He came to this country under arrangements made by Sir William Coddington. He became Coddington's personal tailor. Newport records include a grant of 10 acres to Robert Bennet, servant of Mr. William Coddington, at "the north end of farm." Robert was a farmer and miller, spending most of his life in Newport, RI. He was made a freeman in 1673.

Robert may have been a relative or close friend of William Coddington. He had some education, unusual for a commoner. He may have been a native of Lincolnshire.

Children were:

896	i.	Robert BENNET.
	ii.	Joseph BENNET was born in 1644 in Newport, Newport Co., RI. He died on 31 May 1708 at the age of 64 in Newport, Newport Co., RI.
	iii.	John BENNET was born in 1652.
	iv.	Jonathan BENNET was born in 1659 in Newport, Newport Co., RI. He died on 11 July 1708 at the age of 49 in Newport, Newport Co., RI.
