2198. Robert CUSHMAN447 was born before 9 February 1578 in Rolveden, Kent, England. He died in 1625 at the age of 47 in England. One of the Leiden Separatist Leaders. English origins are given by Elizabeth French, "Genealogical Research in England -- Cushman," NEHGS 68:181.

He arrived on the Fortune with his son Thomas, but returned to England with the Fortune, leaving Thomas in the care of Governor Bradford. See Small Descendants, 2:669. He was originally on the Speedwell. He was assigned land in Plymouth as if he had been on the Mayflower due to his services to the Pilgrims. He remained mostly in London after 1617, negotiating with the merchants who were underwriting the Plymouth Colony. He came on the Fortune with son Thomas in 1621, but returned to England with the Fortune. Sara REDER and Robert CUSHMAN were married on 31 July 1606 in St. Alphege, Canterbury, Kent, England.448

2199. Sara REDER was buried on 11 October 1617 in Pieterskerk, Leiden, Holland. She died in Leyden, Holland.

Thomas CUSHMAN was born before 8 February 1608. He died on 11 December 1691 at the age of 83 in Plymouth, Plymouth Co., MA. Cushman succeeded William Brewster as the ruling elder of the Plymouth Church in 1649.
