3866. John TOMMES was born in 1569 in Long Marston, Gloucestershire now Warwickshire. He died on 25 May 1602 at the age of 33 in Long Marston, Gloucestershire now Warwickshire. John Tommes, son of this John?, concealed Charles II in his home when the king was a fugitive after the Battle of Worcester, on the night of 10 Sep 1651. He was disguised as a servant of Mrs. Jane Lane, and as "Will Jackson was sent to the kitchen. The maid, getting supper for her master's friends, asked him to wind up the Jack. Will Jackson obediently attempted it, but not the right way, and the annoyed maid asked, "what county man are you, that you know not how to wind up a jack?" He answered to her satisfaction, "I am a poor tenant's son of Col Lane in Staffordshire. We seldom have roast meat, but when we have we don't make use of a Jack." (Jacobus, p. 780).

3867. Ellen GUNNE died in 1601.
