1251. Alvin LEONARD⁴⁸² was born on 29 June 1796 in Ware, MA. He died on 20 November 1881 at the age of 85. He apprenticed to a shoemaker, at which work he excelled. He also worked as a clerk in a general store. He later became a farmer. He took an active interest in the military and held a lieutenant's commission. He was an ardent anti-slavery Whig. He once found a fugitive slave in his barn and assisted him in his escape to Canada. He had a stroke in his 80's.

Alvin LEONARD and Laura RICE were married on 9 December 1824. Laura RICE was born on 17 January 1803 in Brookfield, MA. She died on 8 October 1825 at the age of 22.

Alvin LEONARD and Ruth COMBS were married on 16 April 1833. Ruth COMBS, daughter of John COMBS and Eunice SHAPARD, was born on 27 March 1803 in Warren, MA. She died on 30 April 1887 at the age of 84 in Westfield, Hampden Co., MA.
