In Dec 1868 he removed to Ann Arbor, MI, and began law classes at the University of Michigan. Hereturned to Wells in April 1869 after graduating. He married Lucy Blood of Ann Arbor. They returned briefly to South Creek twp. and on May 17 left for St. Louis, Gratiot Co., MI, where Newell began a law practice. In 1915, he was living with his son, Oliver, in Chicago, IL. Newell LEONARD and MARY were married about 1854. MARY was born about 1838 in PA. Newell LEONARD and MARY had the following children:
