1116. Chauncy Samuel LEONARD245 was born on 29 April 1840 in Harpersfield, Ashtabula Co., OH. He died on 23 December 1885 at the age of 45 in Denmark, MI. He was buried at Riverside, Vassar twp., in Tuscola Co., MI. He enlisted in the spring of 1862 in the 11th New York Battery and was engaged in a number of hard fought battles -- Fredricksburg, Chancellorsville, 2nd Bull Run, Gettysburg, the Wilderness, and a number of smaller engagements. From exposure in the army, he contracted a disease which resulted in insanity. For a time he was an inmate of Pontiac Asylum, Michigan. He was a farmer.
