He sold out in 1873 for $1.1 million and retired. He was commissioner of the Alms House, 1846. He spent 15 months in CA. He established the children's hospital on Randalls Island, NY. He was provost marshall during the Civil War. He was an alderman in New York City in 1841. In 1843, he was elected to Congress.
